The Girona Greenways, born in the 1990s thanks to political initiatives and grassroots movements of citizens, initially consisted of 110 km of former railway lines recovered as greenways. The Girona Greenways Consortium, established in 2003, is responsible for the management, maintenance, and promotion of the soft mobility network, composed of various types of routes. Today, they have more than 200 km of greenways, integrated in a network of over 500 km together with the Pirinexus route and other types of trails for walking or cycling. As a result of this progress, they have recently created the brand ECOVIES DE GIRONA.
