Exploring the biodiversity of domestic animal genetic resources in mountain areas: focus on ruminants

This seminar focuses on exploring the biodiversity of domestic ruminants raised in the mountainous regions of Italy. Through a multidisciplinary approach based on the use of classical and genomic information, similarities and differences among Italian cattle, sheep, and goat breeds are presented. The discussion extends to the geographical distribution of these breeds, highlighting their adaptation to different environmental conditions and emphasizing the importance of their conservation in the face of climate change. Results of national projects on biodiversity and small ruminant management will also be presented.
