Students from all over the world took part in the Open Day of the MOUNTAINSIDE Master’s Degree Course

The Open Day of the Master’s Degree Course “Valorization and Sustainable Development of Mountain Areas” – MOUNTAINSIDE  took place on Monday 15th May 2023.   Students – in presence and online – participated in the meeting from various countries of the world, including India and Malawi.

«UNIMONT is the result of collaboration between the University of Milan and local public institutions. Our primary objective is to prevent the abandonment of mountain territories by working and investing in young people, through a specific training offer and with innovative activities stemming from the research that is conducted here» , says Prof. Anna Giorgi, head of the UNIMONT Centre of the University of Milan and Coordinator of the Bachelor’s Degree Course in Development and Protection of the Mountain Environment and the Master’s in Valorization and Sustainable Development of Mountain Areas, who launched the presentation meeting of the Open Day of the Master’s Degree Course “Valorization and Sustainable Development of Mountain Areasat the UNIMONT campus of the University of Milan.

The Open Day gave participants the opportunity to interact and discuss with current lecturers and students, as well as to carefully evaluate the specific characteristics of the #MOUNTAINSIDE Degree Course and understand the teaching approach and the opportunities that can lead the way to a successful career in mountain areas. During the meeting, Debora Giorgi and Gaurav Kumar shared their experience as students, highlighting how this path is full of opportunities and interactions both at an international and local level, in a word: glocal.

Subsequently, some lecturers presented the programs of their respective courses and shared their teaching experiences: Matteo Vizzarri, professor in the course of Sustainable Management and Bioeconomy of Mountain Forests; Sarah Whitaker, lecturer in the Geographic and Historical Development of the Mountains in the Long Run; Simon Pierce, professor of Mountain Ecosystems and Biodiversity Valorization. Lastly, Professor Giulio Senes, who will lead the Infrastructures and Landscapes Planning for Sustainable course Tourism in Mountain Areas in the second year, shared his passion and experience in the sector.

Finally, an interactive session dedicated to specific questions to find out more about job opportunities, as well as to receive personalized advice for career choices, concluded the meeting.

The Open Day is a key moment to help you take an important step in choosing your study path!
