UNIMONT and Georgian Technical University together for the mountains: the international exchange week has finished

From 12th to 16th May 2025, the UNIMONT hub of the University of Milan hosted a delegation from the Georgian Technical University (GTU) of Tbilisi, as part of a capacity building project promoted by the GTU and supported by the Georgian Government. The initiative aims to create new international degree courses dedicated to the sustainable development of mountain areas.

During the week, Georgian professors were able to discover more about the experience of the UNIMONT hub, recognized as a model of excellence for the valorization of mountain territories: from visits to laboratories and teaching spaces, to exploration of the territory, with important visits to places such as the Stelvio National Park, the Bormio Botanical Garden and the Edolo Hydroelectric Power Plant.

There were numerous opportunities for discussion and sharing ideas: from the meeting with the Pontedilegno-Tonale Consortium and the representatives of the UNIMONT students, to the activities for the valorization of the ancient corn Mais Nero Spinoso supply chain. The delegation also visited some production and cultural sites of the Vallecamonica, including the Monchieri winery and the Regional Reserve of Rock Engravings of Ceto, Cimbergo, and Paspardo.

The visit concluded today, Friday, May 16, at the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (DISAA) of the University of Milan, with a meeting attended by the Vice-Rector for Internationalization, Prof. Paola Catenaccio, along with faculty members of the Department and the directors of the departments that make up the Ge.S.Di.Mont Research Center, active at the UNIMONT Hub. This was an opportunity to explore possible future synergies in the fields of research and teaching, strengthening international cooperation in support of the sustainable development of mountain areas.
