Anna Giorgi among the 50 Mountain personalities 2023

Anna Giorgi, Full Professor of the University of Milan and Head of the UNIMONT Centre of the University of Milan, has been included among 50 Mountain personalities for 2023 on the montagna.tv website specialized in mountain environments and mountaineering.

The selection, drawn up by this important sector website, is not a ranking and aims to credit to those who have accomplished important feats or contributed significantly to the knowledge and development of mountain areas.

Anna Giorgi was included, together with mountaineers, writers, free climbers and refuge managers, trail runners and environmental guardians from all over the world, among the 50 most important personalities for the Mountains in 2023 with the following motivation:

Driving force of Unimont, the Mountain University based in Edolo, Anna Giorgi raises the bar once again. Coordinator of the Degree Course in Development and Protection of the Mountain Environment and Scientific Coordinator of the CRC Ge.S Di.Mont., she has introduced the international, multidisciplinary, English-language Master’s Degree Course Valorization and Sustainable Development of Mountain Areas – MOUNTAINSIDE, which will widen collaboration with international experts and offer further professional opportunities to students. A key player in numerous national and international research projects on mountain issues, in 2023 she also became principal investigator of the research projectMountResilence – Accelerating transformative climate adaptation for higher resilience in European Mountain Regionswhich involves 47 partners from 13 European countries. Also interesting is her collaboration with the Italian Army for “Campi d’Alta Quota 2023” a project of scientific research and experimentation of new technologies in an environment with ‘arctic’ characteristics, on the Ghiaccio del Gigante on the Mont Blanc massif.”
