The voices of the Master’s Degree MOUNTAINSIDE: returning to study at UNIMONT after a Bachelor’s Degree

Francesco Bertera graduated in Development and Protection of the Mountain Environment in 2018 at the UNIMONT Campus of the University of Milan and began working in a forestry consortium. Last September he chose to return to study at UNIMONT to deepen his knowledge and train as an expert specialist in mountain areas through the multidisciplinary study course offered by the Master’s Degree “Valorization and Sustainable Development of Mountain Areas”. Find out about his experience!

The mountains have always held a special place in my heart. As a child, I was instantly captivated by this environment, gradually developing a profound respect and deeper understanding for it. Over the years, I realized I wanted to someday do something in return for the emotions and experiences the mountains have has always given to me.”

This was at the basis of Francesco Bertera‘s decision to enroll in the three-year degree course “Development and Protection of the Mountain Environment” – VALMONT, a path that allowed him to study “in a professional, but at the same time friendly, environment, sharing experiences and studies with numerous students from different territorial contexts, but with a single passion at heart and the same goal in mind: the mountain and its valorization.”

After completing his Bachelor’s degree in April 2018, Francesco began working at the “Consorzio Forestale Lario Ceresio”, an agro-forestry-pastoral heritage management organisation thanks to which he was able to carry out technical assistance, silviculture and alpine farming, putting into practice the knowledge acquired during his studies.

However, the UNIMONT experience is not over. In fact, Francesco explains that “since September 2022, with the start of the new international Master’s Degree course “Valorization and Sustainable Development of Mountain Areas”, I have decided to resume my studies to give continuity to what I did previously, in order to deepen, improve and enhance my knowledge regarding mountain areas.”
