A student of the Master’s Degree MOUNTAINSIDE at the international Spring School in Cyprus

Matteo Pistis, student of the first year of the Master’s Degree CourseValorization and Sustainable Development of Mountain Areas ” – MOUNTAINSIDE, thanks to his training focusing on the sustainable development of mountain areas, was selected to participate in the Spring School in Cyprus “Sustainable and inclusive development in the face of the climate crisis. Focus on Mediterranean mountain areas”.

The Spring School, organized by MountMed Institute and Origine Diversité Territoires with the support of the Cyprus University of Technology, the University of Thessaly and UNIL – Université de Lausanne – Center Interdisciplinaire de Recherche sur la Montagne, saw the participation of master’s and doctoral students and focused on the development of a systemic and interdisciplinary vision of the socio-ecological systems of Mediterranean mountain areas.

The students of the UNIMONT Campus of the University of Milan have the opportunity to participate in international initiatives of this type as UNIMONT is present in all global networks dealing with the valorization and sustainable development of mountain territories. A unique added value resulting from more than 25 years of activity of the Pole in the mountain world at local, regional, and European levels.

The week in Cyprus was very interesting because it allowed me to meet students from other countries with different backgrounds from mine and with an interest in food systems, agriculture, and the agro-pastoral sector,” says Matteo Pistis. “In addition to attending the conferences of various speakers, we also made visits to manufacturing companies in the area and carried out group work in the form of role-plays. During this experience, I had the opportunity to put into practice knowledge learned during UNIMONT lessons, such as the study of terracing, the use of GIS software, and the importance of starting from local communities to implement projects that can be effective in the long term.
