From classroom learning to hands-on fieldwork, and from academic growth to community life in Edolo, the experiences of two students enrolled in degree programs at the UNIMONT Hub of the University of Milan, reveal what it means to study in an international environment and become professionals equipped to address the future challenges of mountain regions.
At UNIMONT, the mountains are not just a subject of study, they are an integral part of everyday university life. This is the central theme of an interview conducted by Ivan Faiferri for Graffiti with two UNIMONT students: Alice, enrolled in the Bachelor’s Degree in Development and Protection of Mountain Environment (VALMONT), and Chiarina, a student in the international Master’s Degree in Valorization and Sustainable Development of Mountain Areas (MOUNTAINSIDE).
Coming from different personal and academic backgrounds, the two students describe an environment that attracts young people from across Italy and around the world, united by a shared interest in mountain regions and the challenges they will face in the years ahead. Among the aspects they value most is the strong connection between theory and practice, made possible through field activities and direct engagement with the local territory.
Another distinctive feature is the sense of community. Studying in Edolo, in the heart of the Alps, means living in a welcoming and international setting where students, professors and researchers share experiences, expertise, and opportunities for daily exchange and collaboration.
