CORDIS highlights MountResilience: an interview on climate adaptation in mountain regions

The European Commission’s official portal features a dedicated insight on the Horizon Europe project coordinated by the UNIMONT Campus of the University of Milan, exploring local solutions to safeguard mountain territories.

Project coordinator Prof. Anna Giorgi, Head of UNIMONT, outlines how MountResilience is helping mountain communities address climate change and safeguard local economies in a dedicated feature published by the European Commission’s platform CORDIS.

The article explores the practical approaches implemented across six European pilot regions, from water management in Piemonte (Italy) and Gabrovo (Bulgaria) to climate-resilient tourism in Lapland (Finland). By testing nature-based solutions and establishing local stakeholder councils, the initiative turns climate risk analysis into concrete, community-driven actions. The feature also underscores the value of the open-access Solutions Database, developed to help territories across Europe share and replicate successful adaptation measures.

Coordinating MountResilience represents a great opportunity to strengthen mountain territories. Bringing together partners across Europe turns climate adaptation research into practical, tailored actions that empower communities to face upcoming environmental challenges.
