Italian Mountain Lab: the second meeting of the project for the development and management of mountain areas

The Italian Mountain Lab project team, with the contribution of the University of Milan, the University of Eastern Piedmont and the University of Tuscia met in Edolo at the Mountain University – Center of Excellence of the University of Milan on 15th and 16th February 2018. At the same time, the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) promoted a satellite initiative of Italian schoo s entirely dedicated to the theme of Mountains involving about 16 high school teachers from different parts of Italy.

The Italian Mountain Lab, a Ministry of Education FISR project – Special supplementary Fund for research (FISR 2016), through which the Ministry of Education, University and Research is supporting the objective of promoting collaboration between Universities, Research and Development Centers and stakeholders active in the enhancement of the mountain territory at a national level, was officially presented at CIME A MILANO – Networks, Research, Innovation for Mountain areas.

Over 140 people attended the event, demonstrating their willingness to promote and consolidate actions of co-ordination to implement synergies between national networks for research and development in mountain areas.

The meeting that took place in Edolo saw the teams of the three universities involved in the Italian Mountain Lab project drawing up a shared work plan, setting specific objectives and targets, analyzing expected results and establishing implementation times.

Starting from the results of the first Italian school hackathon entirely dedicated to the development of mountain areas – MOUNTAIN-HACK, this appointment also represents a marathon training session in which 16 teachers from 15 different schools and cities in Italy, representing nine Italian regions and 7 types of high school, worked together to develop an action program aimed at increasing the awareness of Italian schools towards the problems and the opportunities of mountain territories. The goal is to strengthen and communicate the views of teachers on priorities relating to the management of mountain areas at a local, regional and European level and to suggest solutions to meet the challenges that threaten their resources.
