From 7 to 14 September 2025, a delegation from UNIMONT – University of Milan – composed of Prof. Anna Giorgi, head of the UNIMONT Hub of the University of Milan, Prof. Riccardo Guidetti, Director of the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences – Production, Territory, Agroenergy (DISAA), and Prof. Stefano Corsi, lecturer at the University of Milan – UNIMONT Centre, took part in a week of meetings and activities at the Georgian Technical University (GTU) in Tbilisi, as part of a capacity building programme supported by the Georgian Government.
The visit marked an important step in the path of academic and scientific collaboration between UNIMONT – the Alpine Hub of the University of Milan – and GTU, consolidating the ties initiated in recent months during the mission of the Georgian delegation in Italy.
The program included working sessions on course syllabi, exchanges with faculty and students, as well as visits to university laboratories and facilities. In addition to academic activities, the delegation had the opportunity to explore areas of natural and cultural significance in Georgia: from an alpine botanical garden to protected areas of the Caucasus, and the wine region of Kakheti, engaging with local communities committed to enhancing environmental and cultural resources.
“A week in Georgia, among the mountains of the Greater and Lesser Caucasus, where environmental and climatic diversity combine with extraordinary biodiversity and a rich cultural variety. These mountain territories deserve to be promoted and valued, united by the beauty of the landscapes and the authenticity of the local communities,” said Prof. Anna Giorgi, who went on to thank the GTU authorities – in particular Vice-Rector Prof. Tamar Lominadze – for their warm welcome, and Prof. Noe Khozrevanidze, Head of the Faculty of Sustainable Mountain Development, for his commitment to building alliances in support of mountain territories and communities.
The mission concluded in Tbilisi with a series of institutional meetings aimed at further strengthening cooperation in the fields of research, education, and sustainable development.
