INVESTIGATION ON THE EFFECTS OF THE BARK BEETLE ON FOREST BIODIVERSITY

Chance for a thesis or stage focused on the study of terrestrial and saproxilic arthropod communities (via pitfall and window trapping), and vegetation (via phytosociological relevés) in montane spruce forests severly impacted by bark beetle outbreaks (Ips typographus).

Aim of the research project is to unravel trends and changes in these bioindicator communities, comparing the situation in healthy spruce stands and snag forests (that is forests of standing dead trees killed by the bark beetle).
Opportunity to work in the field and in the lab, and acquire skills on the study of vegetation and terrestrial arthropods.
