On February 25, at 7:00 PM, the Teletutto TG Preview will feature a segment on agro-biodiversity and the Malegno Artichoke, with researchers from UNIMONT – the Center of Excellence of the University of Milan.
The broadcast follows a significant milestone for the region: the National Registry of Biodiversity of Agricultural and Food Interest recently officially included the Malegno Artichoke, following its scientific characterization by UNIMONT. This recognition, formalized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Forestry (MASAF) on February 13, 2026, certifies the uniqueness of this traditional cultivar and its deep-rooted connection to the mountain territory.
During tomorrow’s episode, the discussion will focus on local varieties and endangered crops, delving into conservation and enhancement strategies. Professor Anna Giorgi, Head of the UNIMONT Hub at the University of Milan, along with Dr. Luca Giupponi, a researcher at the UNIMONT Hub, will illustrate the research conducted by the University of Milan’s Alpine center to protect agro-biodiversity, using the “Camonian” artichoke as a concrete case study. It will be an opportunity to discover how research adds value to the territory and its resources, as demonstrated by the development of the liqueur “Articiok,” created through the recovery of by-products from this specific cultivation.
