The workshop, the first of a series of four events at regional level, is primarily aimed at potential “custodian farmers” of traditional local cultivars, with particular reference, but not only, to young male and female farmers who wish to become “custodians” of these cultivars. In addition to farms, this event is also open to agronomists and agritourisms.
Traditional local cultivars of Lombardy will be presented with their potential and their cultivation problems, and good technical and scientific practices for their proper conservation and valorization, both on farm (open field cultivation) and ex situ (conservation of seeds) will be explained. The procedure for inclusion of cultivars in the MIPAAF National Register of Cionservation Varieties will also be explained together with the use of alternative regulatory instruments suitable for the recovery of traditional cultivars, such as National Law 194/2015 (National Registry of these products), in addition to the potential measures of the 2014-2020 RDP under which farms can apply to preserve traditional cultivars.
