The seminar aims to present and compare the characteristics of the Lombardy corn varieties in the National Register of Conservation Varieties: Spinato di Gandino Corn, Rostrato Rosso di Rovetta Corn and Nero Spinoso Corn. In addition to highlighting the agronomic and bromatological aspects that characterize these traditional local cultivars, some good practices which growers should follow to counter adversity and save pure seeds (custodian farmers) will be presented. The seminar will also provide an overview of the importance of the conservation and enhancement of the agro-biodiversity of the Lombardy region and present the tools available for the conservation of traditional cultivars. The conference is aimed primarily at farmers potentially interested in the cultivation of traditional and local cultivars of Lombardy, as well as all those who intend to create new small production chains based on such cultivars.
