Description

Proper forest management is a necessity for the environment, and at the same time an opportunity for economic development for mountain areas.

However, forest management is not feasible without forestry companies. For this reason, regional, national and EU policies offer support to forestry enterprises through a series of often very efficient measures. For the same reason, research is constantly trying to develop new technologies that can improve the efficiency and safety of forestry work. Nevertheless, in order to implement effective strategies to support forestry entrepreneurship, it is first essential to know some key factors. How many forest enterprises are there? How are they organized? What workforce can they count on? How much timber do they move? How much machinery do they have? Are there any differences between the companies of the different regions, and if so, what are they?

In this context, the conference  offers reliable data on the number of companies in Northern Italy, also indicating their regional distribution and their characteristics and equipment. Furthermore, the results of over 300 interviews conducted in forestry companies aimed at identifying the main factors of success and the obstacles to further growth in the sector will be presented.
