The seminar aims to present some good practices for the treatment and conservation of the caryopses of cereal (and pseudo-cereal) cultivars traditionally cultivated in the Lombardy Mountains. In particular, in addition to dealing with traditional shelling methods and the considerations to be taken into account in the selection of the seeds of traditional local cultivars, the problems associated with the drying, storage and control of the corn and products derived from it will also be dealt with. During the seminar, some activities UNIMONT is performing for the control of aflatoxins and fumonisins in Nero Spinoso corn will be presented – actions which could be repeated for other local cultivars through collaboration between farms (and/or associations) and universities or research centres.
The seminar is aimed primarily at potential farmers interested in the cultivation of traditional and local Lombardy cultivars, as well as all those who wish to create new small production chains based on these cultivars.
