The AlpFoodway project has 14 partners, including the Comunità Montana della Val Camonica, and 40 observatories in 6 alpine countries and proposes an interdisciplinary, transnational and participatory approach to Alpine Food Cultural Heritage. The most ambitious goal of AlpFoodway is to create the basis for obtaining recognition as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage for Alpine Food Culture.
AlpFoodway is conducting activites to study and prepare an inventory of production chains in search of the common denominators that define the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Alpine food, that is characterized by the presence of food production with similar processes of transformation, knowledge, traditions and rituals throughout the Alps.
The valorisation of these products, through which Alpine cultural identity is preserved, at the same time also guarantees economic resources for the territorial development of marginal alpine areas.
The project leader is Polo Poschiavo, Val Camonica is one of the pilot areas.
AlpFoodway is funded under the Interreg Alpine Space Program.
