On 30th June and 1st July 2025, professors from the UNIMONT Campus of the University of Milan took part in the International Scientific Forum “Teaching Sustainable Mountain Development: Innovative Approaches to Achieving Sustainable Development Goals in Academic Space“, hosted by the Georgian Technical University of Tbilisi. The event, organized within the CIF project for the creation of a master’s program in Sustainable Development of Mountainous Areas, represented an important opportunity for discussion between European and Caucasian academic institutions engaged in training for the sustainable development of mountainous areas.

The opening of the works, in hybrid mode, saw the contributions of the Georgian academic authorities, the representatives of the CIF Fund and Prof. Anna Giorgi – head of the UNIMONT Hub – who highlighted the strategic value of the event as an international platform to promote innovative teaching practices, based on interdisciplinary approaches and direct experience in mountain territories.

During the first day, the lecturers of the University of Milan – UNIMONT Hub – Prof. Stefano Corsi, Dr. Matteo Vizzarri and Prof. Silvana Mattiello – held an online training session, contributing with their skills in the sectors of mountain economy, forest planning and management of wild and domestic fauna. Their contributions emphasized the importance of applied teaching, capable of combining scientific rigor and a deep understanding of territorial specificities.

The second day of the Forum featured thematic sessions and in-person workshops, focusing on advanced teaching tools such as project-based learning, e-learning integration, and the use of GIS technologies in academia. Speakers included Georgian professors and researchers who illustrated innovative approaches to curriculum development, strengthening networking between institutions and the co-design of educational pathways oriented towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
