Two selection processes open for project management and scientific communication positions

UNIMONT – the Alpine hub of the University of Milan based in Edolo (BS) – is opening two selection processes for positions within the hub’s activities for projects and the enhancement and promotion of sustainable development in national and international mountain areas, such as MountResilience, co-funded by the Horizon Europe programme, dedicated to strengthening the resilience and adaptation of European mountain regions to climate change.

The two positions, both lasting 12 months and renewable, offer the opportunity to join a dynamic, interdisciplinary, international research team:

  • POSITION 1: support activities for project management and operational coordination of activities to achieve the objectives set;
  • POSITION 2: communication and dissemination activities using innovative and digital methods and tools.

Both positions involve working in an international and multidisciplinary context which, if approached with commitment and proactivity, offers the opportunity to join national and international networks that will lead to significant growth in terms of professional experience.

 

POSITION 1: Support for project management and technical-scientific coordination of activities

The selected candidate will collaborate with the UNIMONT team, supporting the design, management, technical-scientific coordination, monitoring and relations with national and international partners and stakeholders of projects and actions for the enhancement and sustainable development of mountain areas, with particular attention to the assessment of concrete socio-economic and environmental impacts aimed at the proper management and promotion of innovation in mountain contexts.

Main activities

  • Collaboration and support in the design, operational management and coordination of projects and work packages, with particular reference to the planning of interventions and actions within innovative projects for the development of mountain areas, progress monitoring, activity reporting and management of relations with national and international partners and local stakeholders;
  • Collaboration and support in the implementation of applied research activities related to the sustainable development of mountain areas, transition processes with particular reference to adaptation to climate change in mountain regions, and the collection and analysis of environmental and socio-economic data.Design and promotion of public engagement initiatives aimed at enhancing the results of research activities and projects to promote and implement dialogue between the scientific community, institutions and citizens (workshops, seminars, events, digital and educational productions);
  • Monitoring and evaluating the impact of project activities, contributing to the drafting of technical reports and the development of innovative strategies to document and disseminate the results of activities at local, national and European level (educational videos, MOOCs, virtual workshops, etc.);
  • Collaboration with the UNIMONT communication team to ensure consistency and integration between scientific and institutional communication activities for project activities and initiatives carried out through digital channels, social media, media relations and territorial storytelling tools;
  • Collaboration and support in the design of “citizen science” activities and participatory processes for gathering knowledge and feedback on the impacts generated at local, regional, national and European level;

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or single-cycle degree obtained no more than six years ago;
  • Skills in project management of projects financed by European funds (preferably Horizon Europe);
  • Experience in project management, with reference also to Public Engagement;
  • Excellent knowledge of digital tools for online collaboration;
  • Advanced knowledge of methodologies for managing complex projects (Project Cycle Management, PMBOK); competence in the use of applications for the analysis and representation of data and indicators (Geographic Information Systems such as ArcMap and QGIS, SPSS Statistics); mastery of software for managing web pages (WordPress and similar);
    Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, proactivity;
  • Excellent knowledge of English.

Previous experience in similar roles will be considered positively. However, applications demonstrating a documented and keen interest in issues related to the development of mountain areas and in management and organisational activities, as well as a keen interest in the position offered, availability and proactivity, resourcefulness and interest in growth in a dynamic and international context, will also be considered.

POSITION 2: Communication and dissemination activities using innovative and digital methods and tools

The candidate will be responsible for ensuring strategic, integrated and innovative communication of the activities aimed at enhancing and developing mountain areas and promoting mountain culture as envisaged in the projects implemented by the UNIMONT Centre, ensuring their visibility at local, national and European level and promoting a recognisable and distinctive image of the Centre. The activities to be carried out include institutional relations at national and international level and the organisation of the public relations agenda.

Main activities

  • Implementation of the UNIMONT Cluster communication strategy, adopting innovative methods and tools aimed at communication and dissemination for the promotion of teaching, research and third mission activities, strengthening the visibility and positioning of the university as a reference point for the enhancement and sustainable development of mountain areas;
  • Coordinated management of institutional communication channels (website, newsletter, social media, press office, relations with the mass media) and definition of editorial guidelines consistent with the identity of the Cluster and its strategic objectives;
  • Design and production of multimedia content (podcasts, videos, infographics, interactive maps, digital storytelling) for the dissemination of knowledge and good practices related to territorial innovation and sustainability;
  • Support for scientific and institutional communication through media relations activities, drafting of press releases, organisation of public events, seminars and conferences;
  • Planning and coordination of the public relations agenda with national and international stakeholders;
  • Development and implementation of innovative, digital and interactive initiatives to engage and promote interaction, dissemination and public engagement of institutions and civil society (e-learning platforms, open data, citizen science, living labs; storytelling about the territory and activities for the enhancement of the mountain territory);
  • Promotion of participatory pathways and citizen science initiatives, fostering dialogue between the scientific community, institutions, businesses and citizens in mountain areas;
  • Monitoring and evaluation of the impact of communication activities, through performance indicators, with the aim of increasing the positioning and visibility of the centre’s activities at national and international level (visibility, engagement, territorial impact, knowledge transfer).

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or single-cycle degree obtained no more than six years ago;
  • Excellent command of digital communication tools and platforms (CMS, CRM, social media, graphics and data visualisation software);
  • Ability to write for the web, press releases and official and institutional presentations (PowerPoint, Prezi, etc.);
  • Experience in scientific communication and dissemination in research projects, preferably Horizon Europe;
  • Excellent public relations and stakeholder interaction skills at various institutional levels nationally and internationally, operational autonomy;
  • Excellent knowledge of English.

Previous experience in similar roles will be considered positively. However, applications from candidates with a strong interest in communication and a profile characterised by availability and proactivity, creativity and resourcefulness, and an interest in growing in a dynamic and international context will also be evaluated.
