Synergies for the Territory: A Delegation of UNIMI Department Directors Explores the Ferrominers Mine

A delegation of Directors from the six Departments of the University of Milan involved in the educational activities of the UNIMONT Hub visited the Ferrominers Mine in Malonno for a direct look at a virtuous model of territorial enhancement.

On Friday, February 20, the delegation visited the site to engage with local stakeholders. Participants included Professor Lucia Angiolini, Director of the “Ardito Desio” Department of Earth Sciences; Professor Riccardo Guidetti, Director of the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences – Production, Territory, Agroenergy; Professor Alessandro Olper, Director of the Department of Environmental Science and Policy; Professor Sabrina Maria Donatella Dallavalle, Director of the Department of Food, Environmental and Nutritional Sciences; and Professor Anna Giorgi, Head of the UNIMONT Hub, along with a group of University professors and researchers.

The delegation was welcomed by the Vice-Mayor of Malonno, Moira Giacomini, and members of the Ferrominers Cooperative: Federico Tilola, Stefano Morandi, Diego Mora, and Paolo Piazzani. The visit provided a concrete example of how environmental respect and the preservation of historical memory can be transformed into a valuable territorial development project.

The presence of the University of Milan in the region through the UNIMONT Hub continues to create opportunities for new horizons in education, research, and the “Third Mission,” fostering synergies with local, national, and European entities. Enhancing sites like the Ferrominers Mine is fundamental to supporting the transition toward sustainable tourism, where the conscious management of resources and local history generates social and cultural value, aligning perfectly with the University’s objectives.
