Mountain general assembly: dialogue and collaboration among the main actors of mountain territories to identify concrete actions and intervention for the enhancement and sustainable development of mountain areas

The Mountain General Assembly was held in Rome on 16th October, organized by the Minister for Regional Affairs and Autonomy with delegation for mountain areas, Erika Stefani who presided over the meeting and explained its objectives, that of starting a procedure that calls the stakeholders of Italian mountains together for continuous and effective comparison, in 11 permanent thematic work tables. The objective is to identify practical actions and intervention that can generate significant results in these areas.

The Mountain University has contributed to the work, testifying how effective it is and how much concrete impact is given by investment in the training of young people, who want to live and work in the mountains, and in research that produces the innovation that the mountains are in great need of.

Anna Giorgi states: “the General Assembly and permanent tables can be an opportunity to really elaborate the new development models that the mountains need to escape marginality and contribute to the country’s competitiveness. The mountains must be dealt with by working from the mountain territories, which must be lived and interpreted for the specificities that make them unique, transforming resources in value and wealth in a sustainable way, only through the expertise, professionalism and innovative approach of the young mountain people of the new millennium“.
