The Mountain University – UNIMONT, Centre of Excellence of the University of Milan based in Edolo (BS) hosted a group of American students from New York University on Friday 11th October, guiding them on an educational visit to discover the UNIMONT centre and the specificities of mountain areas.
The themes of sustainability, environment and renewable energy led Julian Lonsdale, educational coordinator of NYU Florence to bring 25 students from the University of New York to visit the Mountain University in Edolo.
Prof. Anna Giorgi opened the afternoon meeting talking about the UNIMONT experience and the importance of “studying the mountain territory in the mountains” to develop specific skills and meet the needs of such areas.
The American students were accompanied by Dr. Valeria Leoni and Giulia Ceciliani during a visit to the UNIMONT Ge.S.Di.Mont. Research Centre where they saw the laboratories and discovered more about the topics dealt with by researchers. After a meeting with the students of the Mountain University, the visit ended at Agriturismo San Faustino located in the municipality of Ceto (BS), managed by Valentino Bonomi, a former UNIMONT student. Here the visitors had the opportunity to observe the role of multi-functionality and environmental conservation of a mountain farm.
